Hey, I'm Kendal. I'm a fifteen year old girl living in a small town. I have two loves: fashion and music.
Speaking of the two aforementioned loves, I have had the chance to encounter them both in the same place recently. Every year, the town I live hosts a Bringing Back the Eighties Festival. Here, everybody dresses in eighties styled clothing, and listens to eighties music. I'm quite familiar with the music, but not as much with the fashion. I took the opportunity to explore what people wore in the 1980's.
I noticed everything was bold. It seemed everything was created especially just to make a statement. Neon was everywhere; it was splattered on leggings, tutus, shoes, and especially on faces.
The make up was far from natural. Fuscia lipstick apparently was a huge trend, along with bright eye shadow, mainly in the colors of blue and yellow.
There were shoulder pads, which I found slightly bizarre, but in a totally good way.
Everyone had big hair that was teased beyond belief. It looked really fluffed up.
Now, the eighties are coming back, and not just at parties. Trends from the eighties have been seen on the runway, such as: L.A.M.B (green eyeliner), Alexander Herchovitch (shoulder pads), Mara Hoffman (pink dress and bangles), Jill Stuart (metallic dress and leggings), and Jason Wu (pink and purple dress with hat). I love the Jason Wu dress. It's gorgeous. Plus, I'd love to nab that hat.
